ABOUT THOSE NIGHTS: "[In 1982] it was an odd evening because I was nominated for both best supporting actress in Tootsie and best actress in Frances. The nominations were rewarding because I hadn't really done anything serious before. But it was hard for me because Kim Stanley was also nominated for playing my mother in Frances, and I loved Kim so much. I always felt her work in The Goddess was the finest performance by a woman ever on film. So I found myself actually rooting for Kim, who had never won an Oscar. And when I heard my name, I was disappointed for Kim. But it was fun. I'm never that comfortable at those events, but it was a real turning point for me. For Blue Sky it was really great. Since I can't drag Sam [Shepard] to these events, I had two dates-my brother, George, who has come with me every time I've been nominated, and [director] Michael Caton-Jones. We stopped to buy champagne on the way, and when we arrived the red carpet had been rolled up, and we had to wait to be seated. Blue Sky had sat in a vault for three years while the studio [Orion] was in bankruptcy; probably no more than 3,000 people saw it when it was finally released, so I was delighted that it received this recognition."
LIFE WITH OSCAR: "I've always kept my home life and my work life very separate. So they sit in my private study off my bedroom. The kids don't say much about them. There are a lot of things more important to them than their mom's Oscars, let me tell you."
