A psychiatrist (Eckhart) gives up his position at a university to work at a mental hospital where his suicidal father was once a patient. Lange plays Eckhart's mother who is not happy that her son is working at this clinic.
Despite an all-star cast and intriguing premise, this slow moving film never reaches its potential. After making its debut at the Toronto Film Festival, Miramax Studios shelved the film and finally released it on DVD a year later.

Critical Sampling:
"Jessica Lange, sporting a new fright mask facade, is reduced to playing a fragile matron without a single subtextual reason for being so brittle."- DVD Verdict "William Hurt, Jessica Lange, Nick Nolte (intriguing as ever), and Ian McKellen (as a nut with a Brad Pitt-in-12 Monkeys twitch) lend some class but can't enliven the clichés." - Entertainment Weekly Back to Film & Television |
